The first-ever VPD Women’s Safety Fair was well-received by the community as more than 150 women attended the event Saturday afternoon at the Trout Lake Community Centre.

The three-hour fair featured information booths staffed by Vancouver Police officers and community partners with expertise in investigations, personal safety and specialized support services.

Women in attendance participated in an interactive training session where they learned some simple but effective personal safety techniques to help extricate themselves from an encounter that turns violent.

The goal of the event was to raise awareness and provide women with information and options should they find themselves dealing with a person who tries to harm them physically, sexually or emotionally.

Details of any future safety fairs will be posted at vpd.ca.
