About 50 blasting caps and a small bottle of liquid, possibly highly unstable nitroglycerin, likely dating back decades, have now been destroyed.

The discovery was made earlier today by construction workers inside a home being renovated in the unit block West 17th Avenue. Officers in the VPD Explosives Disposal Unit safely removed the old blasting caps and liquid from the 100 year old home and destroyed them in the alley using a controlled detonation.

Traffic in the area is expected to return to normal shortly.
