The driver of a car was lucky to escape without serious injury and clean-up crews are expected to be busy today after a car drove into the side of a house late last night in southeast Vancouver.

Shortly before 11 p.m., emergency crews responded to the 4600 Joyce Street for reports that a car had driven into a house. Officers arrived to find that a car had driven off the road, through a wooden fence, and into the side of a house.

The lone occupant of the car, a 70 year old Vancouver woman, had to be extracted from the car by Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services and B.C. Ambulance paramedics. Her only injury was a cut to her left hand. The only resident in the house at the time, an 82 year old woman, was uninjured despite being inside the room that the car drove into.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation but, at this stage, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
