Three young adults and two youths are in custody after police received calls of gunshots being fired outside a house in the 400 block E. 49th Avenue this morning.

Just before 3 a.m., Vancouver Police received several calls from residents in the area of E 49th Avenue and Prince Edward Street that shots had been fired, possibly towards a house in the 400 E 49th Avenue, and a car heard driving away. Officers arrived to find several shell casings and bullet damage to a house. The house was occupied at the time by one youth and three adults but no one was injured.

Other officers were able to locate the suspects several blocks away and after a short negotiation three young men, ages 18, 19 and 20, and two 17 year old male youths were taken into custody without incident. They are all in custody and facing possible firearms and mischief-related charges.

The Vancouver Police Robbery/Assault/Arson Unit has been called in to investigate the incident. At this early stage detectives are looking into what the motive for the shooting may have been but do not believe it was random.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has information and has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Robbery/Assault/Arson Unit at (604) 717-2541.
