A 48 year old Vancouver man is recovering in hospital from serious injuries to his right leg after falling under a transit bus yesterday evening in downtown Vancouver.

At about 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th, an articulated transit bus stopped at the bus stop located on the north side of West Hastings Street at Carrall Street. The bus took on passengers and as it began to pull away, the man, who had been waiting at the bus stop but did not initially move to get on the bus, began to run towards the bus. Early indications are that the man was extremely intoxicated and he appears to have slipped as he was running, causing him to fall under the middle wheels of the bus.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital with critical injuries to his right leg. He remains in hospital in serious, but stable, condition and is expected to recover.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak with police is asked to call the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit at (604) 717-3012.
