Charges have now been laid following an arrest early Saturday morning after a fight resulted in a man being taken to hospital for a stab wound to his stomach.

At about 1 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th, police responded to calls that a man had been stabbed after a verbal altercation turned into a physical fight between two men outside the Anza Club at West 8th Avenue and Ontario Street.

Officers found the suspect in the 100 block East Broadway and arrested him without incident. The victim, a 32 year old Burnaby man, was taken to hospital and received treatment for a cut to his stomach. His injuries are considered non-life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Gbassay Magona-Kallon, a 20 year old Surrey resident, is charged with assault with a weapon and aggravated assault. He is not previously known to police and was released from custody on a recognizance.

Magona-Kallon is scheduled to make his next court appearance at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4th.
