This year, the Vancouver Police Department, in conjunction with the RCMP “E” Division, is hosting the 15th Annual Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial, taking place at Brockton Oval in Stanley Park on September 30th at 1:00 p.m.

This provincial memorial was started in 1998 at the request of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police. It allows members who are unable to attend the National Memorial in Ottawa a place to pay respect to the families and remember their comrades who have paid the ultimate price.

This is the one time of year where police officers gather to remember and honour their brothers and sisters who have died in the line of duty. It also shows the families and community that these fallen heroes did not die in vain.

Currently, there are 114 names inscribed on the Bastion, the Official Police Cenotaph in Victoria, signifying the fallen members from the province of British Columbia. The names of each officer will be read at this year’s ceremony.
