Update

A Vancouver Police dog is recovering in an emergency animal clinic after being stabbed earlier tonight.

Shortly before 7:30 this evening, police responded to a robbery at the Esso gas station at Fraser Street and Marine Drive.

Police received information that a man had attempted to rob the gas station but ran away after being scared off by a staff member.

When police got there, a police K-9 unit began tracking the suspect and found the man in the area of 52nd and Fraser Street.

As police tried to arrest the man, he slashed the police dog with a knife. The police dog was rushed to an emergency animal clinic where he is currently recovering from serious injuries.

The man was subsequently arrested and taken to jail. The 20 year old Vancouver man will likely be facing charges for robbery, weapons offences and assaulting the police dog.
