A pedestrian has been killed after a collision involving a transit bus on Hastings near Main Street.

Shortly before 6:30 this evening, Vancouver Police and BC Ambulance Service received several 9-1-1 calls about a collision involving a pedestrian and the bus. Police and paramedics arrived and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is still early in the investigation, but it appears the victim fell under the bus as it pulled away from the bus stop.  The driver of the large articulating bus and his passengers were not aware of the incident until advised a short time later. The driver stopped immediately once told about the collision and is co-operating with police.

Police have been unable to identify the victim at this time.

Investigators with the VPD Collision Investigation Unit will continue speaking with witnesses, canvass for video and gather evidence to try and determine the cause of the collision.

Traffic on Hastings Street is no longer being effected.
