Police have recommended charges against two men after an observant citizen called 9-1-1 to report their suspicious behaviour.

Shortly after 5:00 a.m. on October 5th, the resident of an apartment complex on East 6th Avenue near Fraser Street went into the underground parking garage to take out the trash. He saw two men and a parked SUV with the hood up, and they appeared to be working on the engine. The resident did not recognize either of the men and thought they appeared out of place.

After taking out the garbage, he returned to his suite, grabbed his cell phone and called 9-1-1. He stayed on the phone with police, who arrived within minutes, and with the help of a police K9, both men were arrested.

The SUV and licence plates were both been reported stolen in Surrey, and officers found drugs, break-in tools, bear spray and stolen property inside the vehicle.

A 29 year old Langley man and a 49 year old Surrey resident are facing several charges that include break-and-enter, mischief and possession of stolen property over $5000.

“If you see something suspicious, please don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1,” says Constable Brian Montague. “Consider joining Block Watch. Neighbours looking out for neighbours can be a powerful deterrent to crime.”
