Charges have been laid after a woman was attacked and sexually assaulted on Vancouver’s west side.

Shortly after 10:30 pm on September 22nd, a young woman was approached by a man as she walked along Alma Street near West 14th Avenue. He allegedly grabbed her and groped her. She broke free only to have the man chase her for several blocks.

He caught up to the woman on Dunbar Street near 18th Avenue. The man again began to sexually assault the woman ignoring her pleas to stop. She fought off her attacker a second time and ran.

Police were called and an extensive search of the area was conducted, but officers were unable to find the suspect.

Over the next several days, investigators in the Vancouver Police Sex Crimes Unit with the assistance of members of the new Community Safety Personnel conducted an extensive canvass for witnesses and video in an attempt to identify a suspect.

The hard work and persistence of investigators and Community Safety Personnel paid off. Charges of sexual assault have now been laid against 60 year old Vancouver resident Bogdan Murawski.

His next court appearance is scheduled for October 17th at 1:30 pm in Vancouver Provincial Court.
