The Vancouver Police are asking for the public’s help to solve a violent assault that has left a woman with serious injuries.
On October 19th around 3:30 a.m., a 22 year old woman from the United Kingdom was walking in the area of Main Street and 3rd Avenue when she was attacked from behind and knocked to the ground. She was repeatedly kicked in the head and body and was rendered unconscious.
After the woman regained consciousness, she made her way to the area of Main and Broadway where she flagged down a taxi. She was dropped off by the driver around Main Street and East 56th Avenue.
The incident was reported to police the next day.
The woman suffered a broken jaw and cuts and bruises to her face, hands and legs, and spent one day in hospital where she underwent surgery as a result of her injuries.
At the time of the attack, the victim was wearing a camouflage jacket, headphones and was carrying a skateboard.
At this time, police do not believe the attack was sexual in nature, nor do police believe that the motive for the attack was a robbery.
“We are relying on the public to provide police with information about this attack, as this woman has little recollection of the assault or the identity of her attackers,” says VPD spokesperson, Sergeant Randy Fincham.
“We are also hoping to identify the South Asian taxi driver who assisted the woman the night of the attack so he can also provide much needed information to the police.”
