A recent report delivered to MLA John Yap was designed to show him the problems created by binge drinking in the city’s Entertainment District. The report accurately reflected the views of the front line officers involved with this issue.
It is not accurate, however, to categorize this report as the position of the VPD or the Vancouver Police Board. Our position is reflected within the submissions of the BC Association of Chiefs of Police and the City of Vancouver.
Because our main priority is always the safety of the people we serve, we do support laws and practices that lead to enjoyable and safe consumption, but are opposed to any measures that encourage harmful binge drinking.
