January 2011 Update  |  February 2011 Update

In January of 2011, Vancouver Police announced a number of arrests as a result of SisterWatch and Projects Rescue and Tyrant. Women of the Downtown Eastside had told police that what they feared most were the predatory drug dealers who conducted their business with violence, torture and terror, and preyed on the addicted, the ill, and women.

An investigative team was chosen from various areas of the Vancouver Police Department, including Major Crime, Gangs and Drugs, Financial Crime and the Beat Enforcement Team, to proactively target those individuals that were victimizing the most vulnerable and the most marginalized in the Downtown Eastside Community.

On November 25th, 2013, two men were sentenced for their criminal roles in the Downtown Eastside.

Nolan Swallow, a 33 year old New Westminster man, has now received an eight-year sentence for conspiracy to traffic and a two-year sentence for his participation in a criminal organization, for a total of ten consecutive years.

Lemar McCann, a 32 year old New Westminster man, has now received a six-year sentence for conspiracy to traffic and a one-year sentence for his participation in a criminal organization, for a total of seven consecutive years.

The Vancouver Police Department, in partnership with the SisterWatch project and Crown Counsel, are continuing with their commitment to make the Downtown Eastside a safer place to live.
