A man believed to be responsible for a pair of sexual assaults in Vancouver has been arrested in Ontario.

The first attack happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. on May 4th, as a 22-year-old Vancouver woman was walking on West Pender near Granville Street. A man followed her on Pender to Cambie Street where he pushed her into a parking lot and knocked her to the ground. The woman fought back believing the man was going to sexually assault her. He ran off when witnesses took notice of the woman’s screams.

The second attack occurred just a few hours later at approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 5th. In that case, a 26-year-old Vancouver woman standing near the Cambie Pub on Cambie near Cordova Street was grabbed by a man and dragged into the south lane. She also fought back until a witness intervened in the attack and the man fled.

Vancouver Police investigators believed the same person was responsible for both attacks and that the attacks were sexually motivated.

On May 10th the VPD released video of a possible suspect and made an appeal to the public for information.

On June 3rd, a renewed appeal was made and additional details were released including information about a baseball hat allegedly dropped by the suspect during the second assault.

The investigation led to the identification of a 30-year-old Ontario resident.

On February 19th, 2014 members of VPD Sex Crimes Unit arrested Kyle David Grantmyre in Brampton Ontario with the assistance of Peel Regional Police Service. Grantmyre has been charged with two counts of sexual assault. He remains in custody and will be escorted back to Vancouver to stand trial.
