Vancouver’s top traffic cop has nabbed an impaired driver following a two-car collision last night.

Shortly after 7 p.m. last night, the Inspector in charge of the VPD’s Traffic Enforcement Section was heading home following a day at work, when he observed a car allegedly swerving eastbound on Grandview Highway near Nanaimo Street.

As the off-duty Inspector was calling 9-1-1, the car reached the intersection at Renfrew Street and collided with another vehicle. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver, a 42-year-old Vancouver woman, was served with a 24-hour suspension, an Administrative Driving Prohibition, and her vehicle was impounded before she was released on a Federal Appearance Notice. Police will be recommending charges for impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

“We want to encourage other drivers to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1 on a hands-free device,” says VPD Inspector Les Yeo. “Our officers don’t turn it off at the end of the day, and we encourage others to do their part in making our roads a safer place.”
