Update

A man is recovering in hospital after the car he was driving ended up in the waters off Vanier Park.

Shortly after 8:30 this evening, police and emergency crews were called after a car went down the boat launch ramp and into the bay. Five Vancouver Police officers went into the water to assist and managed to pull the driver and his dog to safety.

The driver was taken to hospital and the dog to a local emergency animal clinic. Both are reportedly doing well.

The five police officers were all tended to by paramedics at the scene then taken to police headquarters to warm up and dry off.

It is unknown why the car ended up in the water and the incident remains under investigation.
