One man remains in custody after he was arrested early yesterday morning for allegedly breaking into an apartment building.

The residential building in the area near Broadway and Oak Street had been targeted several times in the last two months for break-ins to cars and storage lockers. In response, Vancouver Police gave the building special attention.

Two officers were doing a walk-through of the building, the underground parking lots and the storage areas on October 30th, shortly before 5:00 a.m. About 15 minutes into their patrol, they found a man getting off an elevator in a secured area near the storage lockers. The man was not a resident and could not provide a reasonable excuse for being there. He had no keys to the building, and as the officers spoke with him he began to sweat profusely. Officers found him in possession of gloves, a flashlight and a set of bolt cutters.

Thirty-six-year-old Daryll Beal has been charged with break-and-enter, possessing break-in tools, and possession of identity documents. He is well-known to police and has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on November 4th.
