A Vancouver ballet teacher is facing charges of sexual exploitation after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with an under-age student.

The instructor, 49-year-old Alejandro Vargas Gomez of Mexico, is believed to have worked as an instructor at the Goh Ballet Academy beginning in the fall of 2013. In January of 2014, he allegedly began a sexual relationship, outside of the academy, with a student who was between the ages of 16 and 18 at the time of the offence.

Alejandro Vargas Gomez has been charged with two counts of sexual exploitation and one count of luring, and he is currently in custody, pending further investigation.

The Goh Ballet Academy is cooperating with the police investigation.
