The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC and the BC Coroners Service are looking into the death of a 58-year-old woman while in police custody.
Shortly after 6:00 a.m. on December 15th, police responded to a 9-1-1 complaint from a Vancouver resident about the woman. She was arrested and transported in a police wagon to jail.
Upon arrival at the jail, the woman was found unresponsive in the wagon. Paramedics were called and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.
On December 23rd, the woman died in hospital. The cause of death is not readily apparent and the Coroner will determine how the woman died.
