Throughout the month of March, police will be stepping up enforcement of distracted drivers.

Distracted driving has climbed to the second leading cause of traffic fatalities on our roadways, closely behind speeding. Over 80 people are killed on BC’s roadways each year when a driver makes a decision to take their hands off the wheel and their focus off the road.

“Leave your phones alone, use a hands-free device or pull over to the side of the road if you need to talk or text,” says Acting Inspector Ken Eng of the VPD’s Traffic Section. “Please, stay alive — don’t text and drive.”

The fine for using an electronic device while driving is $167.
