Throughout the month of September, police will be stepping up enforcement looking for distracted drivers who continue to put the lives of others on the road at risk.

There are still many drivers who are not getting the message about the dangers of distracted driving. Over 80 people are killed on BC’s roadways each year when a driver makes a decision to take their hands off the wheel and their focus off the road.

“Leave your phones alone. Use a hands-free device or pull over to the side of the road if you need to talk or text,” says Acting Inspector Ken Eng of the VPD’s Traffic Section. “Don’t put your life, and the lives of others, at risk.”

The fine for using an electronic device while driving is $167 and three points on your licence.
