Investigators are looking to identify a man involved in a bizarre residential break-in this morning in Vancouver’s Commercial Drive neighbourhood that was interrupted by the homeowner.

At about 5:00 a.m. on September 21st, a man climbed through the window of a house near Grandview Park. A woman sleeping in the home with her young child woke up to the intruder entering the home. She engaged the prowler in a physical battle and screamed for him to get out of her house. The noise woke another relative in the home who joined in the physical struggle with the man. The suspect fled through the yard on foot and was last seen running south between the houses.

A man seen running southbound on the east side of Commercial Drive at 4th Avenue approximately 25 minutes later may be related to the break-in. He was described as acting panicked, banging on a car window, and yelling at the driver that he needed a ride before approaching a bus and doing the same.

Anyone who saw this man or has any information about either incident, including the driver of the car this man touched, is asked to call the VPD Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
