After a lengthy investigation, charges relating to a fatal collision on the Granville Street Bridge in 2014 have now been approved.
Shortly before 4:00 a.m. on July 31st, 2014, a 62-year-old man was driving a green Honda on his way to work. He was rear-ended in the southbound lanes of the bridge by another man driving a white Mercedes. The driver, and only occupant of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This was a complex investigation with the participation from many experts” Says VPD Constable Brian Montague. “Police meticulously gathered evidence to support a comprehensive and complete report to Crown requesting criminal charges.”
The 49-year-old driver of the Mercedes, Richmond resident William Hin Fai Lau, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and impaired driving causing death. His first court date has been scheduled for January 5th 2016 in Vancouver Provincial Court #307 at 222 Main Street.
