As police continue to promote and encourage safe driving behaviours, officers are also listening for excessively loud motorcycles and cars.

Summer in the city brings beautiful weather, but it also brings noisy vehicles. The sound of unreasonably and unnecessarily loud motorcycle and car exhaust has the tendency to disturb the peace, enjoyment, and the quality of life of those who live, work, and visit Vancouver. There is no question that for some residents, such as those living in the downtown core, the debilitating sounds from these vehicles can significantly affect the enjoyment of their property.

Beginning July 4th, and running through the summer months, the VPD Traffic Section will be conducting increased enforcement of noisy exhaust systems to reduce these adverse impacts on the public.

The increase of noisy vehicles on the roadways results in an increase in citizen complaints and concerns. In the Province of British Columbia, unnecessary noise from a vehicle’s engine, tires, brakes, or exhaust may result in a violation ticket for $109 plus three points.
