Vancouver – Vancouver Police have made an arrest and are recommending criminal charges after an arson attempt at City Hall last night.

Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call just after 10 p.m. Friday, when a man allegedly used an incendiary device to light a fire outside an entrance to Vancouver City Hall, at Cambie Street and West 12th Avenue. The building was closed to the public at the time.

A witness intervened to stop the fire from spreading.

VPD officers responded immediately and arrested the suspect nearby. The 36-year-old suspect is not believed to be a Vancouver resident and the motive for the incident remains under investigation.

The suspect is currently in custody and the investigation continues.
