Vancouver – Vancouver Police are renewing an appeal for witnesses following the homicide of a 48-year-old man in the city’s Strathcona neighbourhood.

“There were people walking and driving in the area when this shooting occurred who may have seen or heard something important,” says Constable Tania Visintin. “Even the smallest piece of information could help detectives move this investigation forward.”

Police were called to Main and Union Street just after 7 a.m. on September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Norman Labonte, 48, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital but did not survive.

The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been laid.

Investigators believe there may be witnesses who have not yet spoken with police. Anyone with information, or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the incident, is asked to call VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
