The VPD – A Deep Commitment to Service
Welcome from Chief Constable Steve Rai

Welcome to the Vancouver Police Department website. It is an honour to serve as the VPD Chief Constable for a city as dynamic and diverse as Vancouver.
Every day, our sworn officers and civilian professionals work to keep our communities safe, support those in need, and uphold the trust placed in us by the public.
Our mission is simple, but essential: to protect life, prevent crime, and support the well-being of everyone who lives in, works in, and visits this city. If you are the victim or witness of a crime, if you see someone or something suspicious, or if you just need advice, we want to hear from you.
We recognize that policing today comes with complexity and high expectations. Vancouver is growing and changing, and so too are the needs of its communities. We are committed to meeting those needs with openness, transparency, and a willingness to listen and adapt. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and strong relationships with the community are essential to everything we do.
I am proud of the dedication and professionalism of our people. The work they do, often in difficult and unpredictable circumstances, is grounded in a deep commitment to service. Their efforts, alongside those of our community partners, help make Vancouver a safer and more resilient city.
We invite you to explore this website to learn more about our work, our priorities, and the services we provide. Most importantly, we encourage ongoing dialogue with the community we serve. Your perspectives help shape how we do our work every day.
Thank you for taking the time to visit.
