Vancouver – Costumed revelers should expect to see more police in uniform across the city as thousands of people prepare to celebrate Halloween this weekend.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is deploying approximately 80 additional officers throughout Vancouver to support public safety and respond to an expected increase in activity in including the Granville Entertainment District, Gastown and neighbourhoods across the city.

The extra officers will be assigned to foot patrols, traffic enforcement, youth engagement, and proactive policing throughout Halloween weekend. They’ll be working alongside community partners and emergency services to help ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone.

“We’re happy to see people get out and enjoy Halloween festivities, and we want everyone to have a good time,” says Constable Megan Lui. “We’re asking people to celebrate responsibly, look out for one another, and call 9-1-1 immediately if they witness a crime in progress, suspicious activity, or any situation that puts someone’s safety at risk.”

Police are also reminding the public that imitation firearms and replica weapons can create fear, prompt emergency calls, and may lead to a significant police response.

People are encouraged to avoid carrying imitation weapons as part of their Halloween costumes and to consider alternative costume accessories that do not resemble real weapons.
