The VPD uses innovative strategies to better serve people living with mental illness. A collaborative approach with other service providers in the community is essential.
Partnering with Vancouver Coastal Health
Improving Quality of Life for People Living with Mental Illness, Substance Use, & Addiction
For more than 40 years, the Vancouver Police Department has partnered with Vancouver Coastal Health to help improve the quality of life for mutual clients living with mental illness, substance use, and addiction.
Our collaboration is aimed at reducing harm to both clients and the community, and at reducing a client’s involvement with the criminal justice system, law enforcement, and emergency health services, by providing a coordinated response.
See below to learn how the VPD works with others to lessen the impact untreated mental illness has on the community, on policing, on health services, and, most importantly, on those living with mental illness.
