Vancouver Police responded to a number of 911 calls of shots fired at 6:15 a.m. in the 200 block of W.11th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground at the rear of a house, just inside an iron gate that exited into the 2700 block of Columbia.

Officers cordoned off the area and searched the area for over an hour, but no suspect was found. A number of witnesses were taken from the home down to the police station for interviews.

Homicide and forensic investigators have been on scene all morning collecting evidence. A search and canvass of the neighbourhood is planned for later today in an effort to uncover any discarded evidence.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting, whether out walking their dog or just getting ready for work, is asked to call investigators at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The victim has been identified as 41 year old Juel Ross Stanton, who was the subject of a VPD Press Conference on April 12, 2010.
