One man is dead and the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit is investigating after a shooting late this afternoon in Port Moody.

Citizens called the Port Moody Police shortly before 4:45 p.m. today after a man was shot and killed while outside near the intersection of the St. John’s Street and Queen’s Street.

Members of the Port Moody Police and Coquitlam RCMP rushed to the chaotic scene where dozens of people had been put in harm’s way while in nearby businesses and commuting home in rush hour.

Members of the VPD Forensic Identification Unit and VPD Homicide investigators, including members of the Port Moody Police who are currently working within the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit, and other officers expect to be on scene throughout the night as they process the crime scene and canvass the neighbourhood.

The victim has not yet been positively identified but the early indication is that he is known to police and this was a targeted gang-related shooting.

Police are currently speaking with witnesses about possible suspects but there are no firm details to share at this point.
