Police have confirmed the death of a 49-year-old man in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is the city’s second homicide of the year.

Shortly before 4:00 a.m. on February 11th, paramedics were alerted to a person on the sidewalk on Hastings near Columbia Street who was bleeding and unresponsive. The man was rushed to hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

While the cause of death was not readily apparent, investigators treated the death as suspicious. Officers began collecting evidence, gathering video and speaking with potential witnesses.

The results of an autopsy performed today confirm the death is a homicide. The victim has been identified as Vancouver resident Lorne Joseph Melting-Tallow.
