Vancouver Police are investigating a series of arsons to portable washrooms in the Downtown core, and are advising people to be cautious and to report any suspicious activity around porta-potties to police.

From December 9, 2017 to January 19, 2018, there have been seven arsons where portable washrooms have been deliberately lit on fire during the late evening or early morning hours. In some instances, adjacent buildings have also caught on fire. Fortunately, no one has been injured.

Arson investigators are asking anyone who may have a portable washroom on their property to do the following during overnight hours:

• move the portable washrooms away from any building or structure
• lock and secure each portable washroom
• remove toilet paper and hand sanitizer

Any information about these fires can be given to the VPD’s Arson Unit at 604-717-2541. If anyone notices anything suspicious around portable washrooms in downtown Vancouver during overnight hours, please call 9-1-1.
