A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle and the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit is currently investigating.

Just before 6 p.m. this evening, a 55-year-old Vancouver man was northbound in a marked crosswalk on Inverness Street at East King Edward Avenue, when he was struck by a pick-up truck travelling eastbound.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries, but unfortunately he was pronounced dead later at hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and has co-operated with investigators.

VPD investigators believe that the rain and low light conditions were contributing factors to this collision. Speed and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash.

This is Vancouver’s first traffic fatality of 2018. There is no further information to release at this time as the investigation remains on-going.
