VPD collision investigators are trying to determine the cause of a morning crash between a bus and a car that has claimed the life of an elderly driver.

Just before 9:00 this morning, a BC Transit bus was eastbound on East Hastings Street approaching Princess Avenue. Investigators believe that the bus was entering the intersection on a green light.

A car going north on Princess Avenue drove through East Hastings Street and in front of the bus. The bus collided with the car, which spun out and hit an unoccupied parked vehicle.

The driver of the car, a 73-year-old Vancouver resident, was the sole occupant. He was transported to hospital but later died. There were no other reported injuries.

The scene has since been cleared and traffic in the area has been returned to normal. This investigation remains on-going and there is no further information to provide at this time.
