Vancouver Police are investigating an incident of attempted child luring in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood on Wednesday and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The 12-year-old girl was riding her bicycle on West 6th Avenue between Trimble and Sasamat streets on May 6 around 3:30 p.m. when a man in a parked grey or silver vehicle said to her “come look into my car.”  The young girl was scared and rode home to tell her mother.

“As terrifying a situation like this could be for a young child, she showed her bravery and did the right thing by not engaging with the male,” says Constable Tania Visintin, VPD.” “We commend her for her courage.”

The suspect is described as a white man between 20 and 30 years old. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a larger vehicle – possibly a van or SUV – that is light grey or silver. The vehicle had a roof rack.

Police are asking anyone with information, anyone with dash cam footage, or those who have vehicles equipped with factory video surveillance (specifically from a Tesla), who were in the 4400, 4500, and 4600 blocks of West 6th Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday to contact Vancouver Police detectives at 604-717-0602 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
