While riding a bus early one morning last week, a man was approached by another rider, who unzipped his jacket and tried to steal his backpack. He was not successful and returned to his seat.

As the rider waited by the rear doors of the bus to disembark, the doors opened and he was grabbed by the suspect and thrown off the bus. The robber fled west on Broadway with the victim’s backpack as police were called.

Moments later, an area resident just a few blocks away saw a man standing on her patio. When she asked him what he was doing, he told her was changing after nightshift. She called 9-1-1 and the man fled.

Based on witness descriptions, officers located the suspect in a lane near Broadway and Yukon. They also located the backpack a block away and returned it to the owner, who was not physically injured in the incident.

The suspect was arrested for robbery and taken to jail.
