When three men got out of a car to confront a fourth man in a laneway near Main and E.Hastings Street early one evening last week, they clearly weren’t concerned about prying eyes. One of the three was holding a black gun, which he kept at waist level and pointed at the ground. Their conversation was short, and the three men got back in their car and left the area.
Thankfully, there were prying eyes, and they called 9-1-1. Police officers located the car a few blocks away. Using a loudspeaker to communicate, and with their weapons pointed at the suspect vehicle, police officers took five people into custody. A handgun was seen in the rear of the driver’s seat and a rifle was located in the trunk.
The vehicle was towed to the police garage while officers waited for a search warrant. In addition to fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and a large amount of cash, a search of the vehicle also revealed ammunition and a pellet gun.
