Employees at an East Vancouver Value Village were surprised to find more than $85,000. The envelopes of cash were inside of a bag that was donated to the store.

Staff called the VPD, and officers were able to identify the owner of the money from a bank receipt in the bag. It belonged to an elderly woman, who had stashed it away 25 years ago and forgotten about it. She recently moved to a care home and her family cleaned out an old storage locker. They donated some items to the thrift store, which, unknowingly, included the money.

The cash will be returned to the family.
