Vancouver— Vancouver Police today released the picture of a suspect in the murder of a Downtown Eastside man, who was found badly burned last month during a suspicious fire.

Though the murder was Vancouver’s first of 2023, due the sensitive nature of the investigation VPD has been unable so far to provide details. With important evidence now secured, VPD can release some information about the case.

The victim, 34-year-old Jeff Jeanty, was discovered shortly after midnight on January 3, when Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responded to a suspicious outdoor fire near Powell Street and Raymur Avenue, in the Downtown Eastside. VPD homicide investigators immediately took over the investigation and have spent more than a month collecting evidence, identifying suspects, and analyzing DNA to identify the victim.

Investigators are now asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect captured on camera in the Downtown Eastside around the time of the murder. The whereabouts of the suspect, a woman in her 20s with a fair complexion, is unknown.

The suspect is believed to be about 5’8” tall, between 120 and 140 pounds, and had long dark hair in a ponytail at the time of the murder. She was wearing black ball cap with a white logo on the front, a black jacket over a dark shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes with white soles.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.
