Vancouver – Vancouver Police have made an arrest after a security guard working in the Downtown Eastside was stabbed with a hypodermic needle by a stranger.

VPD officers responded to Main and Hastings around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, after the security guard was stabbed in the arm. The woman refused to drop the needle when officers arrived, and a less-lethal beanbag shotgun was deployed during the arrest.

The 62-year-old victim was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injures.

Cheyenne Harvey, 38, has been charged with aggravated assault.

Harvey remains in custody until her next court appearance.
