Vancouver – A man has been charged with assault following a Vancouver Police investigation into a violent incident on Granville Street Monday afternoon.
The assault happened around 12:30 p.m. on Easter Monday, as the 70-year-old victim was walking near Granville and Smithe streets. Investigators believe he was knocked to the ground, kicked, bitten, and threatened by a stranger.
The victim, who was less than a block from home when the attack happened, borrowed a phone to call 9-1-1. A bystander also called police.
VPD officers were working in the area and arrested the suspect nearby.
Darren Thomey, 34, has been charged with one count of assault.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance.
