Vancouver – A suspect arrested last week by Vancouver Police for allegedly sucker-punching a stranger on West Georgia Street has now been charged in three separate unprovoked assaults.
Last week, Vancouver Police released video showing a man being punched in the face on November 28 and knocked to the ground outside the Hudson’s Bay on West Georgia Street. Police asked witnesses to come forward to help solve the crime.
A VPD officer patrolling the downtown core arrested the suspect near Library Square on December 3.
On Monday, the BC Prosecution Service charged 29-year-old Zachary Tyrell Shettell with one count of assault for his alleged role in the November 28 stranger assault. Shettell is also charged with the November 24 assault of a 35-year-old man near the Vancouver Art Gallery and the assault of a 29-year-old man on November 25 near West Pender and Granville Street.
Police do not believe any of the victims knew the suspect or had any prior interaction with him before being assaulted.
