Vancouver – Vancouver Police Marine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) helped safely resolve an incident involving a distraught man on the B.C. Ferries Sunday afternoon.
At 1 p.m. on Sunday, West Vancouver Police requested assistance from the Vancouver Police Department. VPD’s Marine Unit responded to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal aboard the new vessel, the R.G. McBeath. VPD officers from the Marine Unit provided safety on the water while VPD negotiators and ERT officers spoke to the man. After six hours of negotiation, ERT officers took the man into custody on board the ferry.
The man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital by West Vancouver Police.
