Vancouver – Vancouver Police are investigating an alleged assault that took place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at Connaught Park in Kitsilano, where a 45-year-old man allegedly bear-sprayed a group of cricketers and broke one player’s arm in a fight.
A game was underway when the suspect allegedly walked across the pitch and repeatedly interrupted the play. Players and spectators asked him to leave, at which point the suspect allegedly became aggressive, shouting and swearing.
The suspect then allegedly punched a 37-year-old player and bear-sprayed five others before fleeing the park. As the players followed him, the suspect allegedly turned around several times and continued to bear-spray them.
The suspect then allegedly punched the 37-year-old again and tackled him to the ground, breaking the victim’s arm.
The suspect was taken into custody after multiple witnesses called police. He was subsequently released from jail on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
The victim was treated in hospital and released.
The incident remains under investigation.
