Vancouver – Yesterday at 2:38 p.m., Vancouver Police initiated a Code 3 pursuit after observing a distraught female passenger in a vehicle.
Officers conducting proactive patrols near E. Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue first noticed the parked, occupied BMW with Alberta license plates.
Inside, a front-seat female passenger appeared visibly distraught.
Concerned for her safety and well-being, officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct a welfare check. The vehicle immediately sped away. Due to the perceived threat to the passenger, a police pursuit was authorized.
Multiple police vehicles pursued the BMW into downtown Vancouver, where the suspect drove at high speeds, weaved into oncoming traffic, and showed a complete disregard for public safety.
The pursuit concluded near Waterfront Station after officers successfully utilized a vehicle interdiction tactic and executed a high-risk takedown. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
A 44-year-old Alberta man was arrested and is facing possible charges of forcible confinement, drug possession, and dangerous driving.
The female passenger is cooperating with investigators.
The file remains under active investigation.
