Vancouver Police (VPD) have arrested a man who allegedly pulled a knife on a senior downtown on Wednesday morning.
VPD officers were called shortly after 11 a.m. on September 9 following reports of an aggressive panhandler who had targeted a 76-year-old man in the 1600-block of Davie Street. The suspect approached the victim on a coffee shop patio, allegedly pulled out a knife, and grabbed his backpack before fleeing on foot.
A nearby witness immediately called 911 and remained on the line with dispatchers to provide real-time updates on the suspect’s movements. Thanks to their actions, VPD patrol officers located and arrested the man a short time later without further incident. He was transported to Vancouver Jail.
Joshua Edward Adams, 36, has been charged with assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000.
“We’d like to thank the quick-thinking bystander whose detailed descriptions allowed officers to locate and quickly take the suspect into custody.” says Constable Darren Wong.
