Vancouver Police are investigating a sexual assault after a woman was attacked in a Westside home early this morning.

Around 6 a.m., a 21-year-old woman was asleep in her bed in a home in the area of West 22nd Avenue and Macdonald Street, when she woke to a stranger on top of her attempting to assault her.

She managed to fight him off and he ran from the home. She quickly called 9-1-1. When police arrived, they conducted a search for the suspect throughout the neighbourhood, but were not able to locate the attacker. He remains on the loose.

He was described as an Asian man between 20 and 30 years old with a medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and a mask over his face.

The woman was not physically injured in the attack, but is understandably distraught following the incident.

Investigators will be in the area throughout the afternoon searching for evidence and video related to the assault.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at (604) 717-3117 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
