Update

A 58-year-old man has now died after receiving a serious head injury last weekend.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 30th, the victim left his home to go for a walk at Kits Beach. He returned home at about 10:30 p.m. and appeared dazed and confused, suffering from what appeared to be a minor head injury. When asked about his injury, he couldn’t provide any details about what had transpired.

It is unknown if this man was the victim of some sort of an altercation or accident.

He remained at home to rest during the night, but was found unresponsive the following day. He was rushed to hospital where he underwent two surgeries to repair a life-threatening brain bleed. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

The victim is white, 5’10” tall with a heavy build, short salt-and-pepper hair, and a dark complexion. At the time, he was wearing a New York Yankees baseball hat, an orange t-shirt, cargo shorts, flip-flops, and he was carrying a black backpack.

The case has now been turned over to the VPD Homicide Unit, who investigate all suspicious deaths where the cause of the injury is unknown.

Police have received several tips since providing the information publicly yesterday, and continue to follow them up. Investigators are again making an appeal for the public to come forward.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2541.
